Let’s Reconcile

During the racial tension of 2020, which still is not resolved just quieted, a friend asked me to speak more on the issue as a possible comforting spirit for those willing to listen. This is what I replied (with editing): I have been asked by others, what can I do? Better! That answer seems simple to me, but maybe not for others. In the bible, Matthew Chapter 22, Jesus is asked, what is the greatest commandment? He replied, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments. ”Simply put, love God; love people. Not just family; not just friends; not just those closest to you, but your neighbors (all mankind). Some may say I don’t want to or I refuse to do that. If you are a child of God, it’s a command.

We need to be all in and I ask you to reconsider your life. There’s a love that can only come from God, and it is indescribable. There’s no greater feeling to me, than knowing I’m going up yonder someday, to be with the King. To know my sins are forgiven; to want to act better, be better, and do better. It feels good to help those in need regardless of who they are; to not regard them differently because of skin tone. It feels just as good to hug and love my Caucasian brothers and sisters as it does for my Asian, Hispanic, and Middle Eastern ones. Our organs and blood are interchangeable. Will any one of you ask where a needed organ transplant or pint of blood comes from. Or better yet, will you refuse it if it’s not from your own race?

God doesn’t love us any differently. He is not going to let you into Heaven before me because of your race. We need to let go of attitudes and behaviors that hurt and adopt ones that demonstrate love. We need to communicate better. Poor or no communication prevents companies and individuals from optimizing performance. It negatively affects our personal relationships too. Don’t try to justify wrongs. It makes matters worse. Don’t overreact to what’s going on without doing some research. Don’t allow peer pressure or bullying to get you on the wrong side of justice or treat people unjustly. In Matthew 23:23, Jesus talks to the Pharisees, condemning them for tithing to the penny but neglecting the more important issues of justice, mercy, and faith. We need all these things; and we need each other. Let’s work on us; care better, listen better, love better, and do Better! Let’s begin a transformation of the heart and reconcile with each other, so we can reconcile with Christ.
