Want To Know What Love Is?

We all experience trials in our lives.  But if we know Jesus, there is no reason not to be happy.  Afterall, Jesus came that we might have life and have it more abundantly.  He came to show us how to live a sinless and sacrificial life.  He came to show us how to love.  If we know the love of Christ, and want to be a good disciple and evangelize though saying few words, then we will show everyone that we know and love Him.

Knowing Him should make us feel real good.  And feeling good is usually associated with a smile. The bible says, “Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.” (Psalm 15: 13).  When people see you smiling, they are much more likely to approach you to carry on a conversation, ask questions, or get help.  In the case of the church, they may be even more encouraged to speak, hug you, or ask you about Easter (don’t miss that).  1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”  And Psalm 31:24 states, “Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the LORD.”

Healthline.com research shows that hugging may help reduce stress and lower your risk of anxiety, depression and illness. …  Consider what a simple hug can do: It helps you feel connected; hugging helps reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.  There are studies that show that a 15 – 20 second hug reduces the harmful, physical effects of stress, including its impact on your blood pressure and heart rate.  That’s because prolonged hugging releases oxytocin, a powerful hormone in the brain.

We are made this way by our Creator and when we engage in this show of affection, people will notice.  They will want to know why The Church is so different; why this Church is so loving and encouraging.  I believe they will want to seek the kind of relationship they see here, and that will help lead them to knowledge of Christ.  Nowhere else can anyone find the kind of love, joy, peace, etc. that comes from a relationship with the Savior.   When people are down and out, seeking help, and need encouragement we need to be able to point them to the Cross.  If they want to know, why we are so uplifted, we need to be able to give directions.  Point to the Cross!  Psalm 34:8 says, “O taste and see that the LORD is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!”

No one can do it like Jesus; but I want The Church to be the example of love and encouragement for the community; for our children to see us acting out our faith; to point whosoever will to the Cross, and the LOVE that can only come from Christ.  The greatest hugger in the universe, who left no doubt, You matter. Now that’s communion.
