Have you ever been told that everything that looks good isn’t good for you? Or everything that looks and smells good isn’t good for consumption. Well, I’ll tell you something we can eat, and it is the healthiest food for our spiritual growth; SOAP, or Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. Let me explain with scripture.
John 6:32-35 reads, “Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.” Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” When God feeds us, we’ll be fully equipped to lead others to Him without becoming hungry or thirsty. We’ll be continually fed with SOAP. But consuming all that He is, and all that He represents, we’re filling our spiritual soul.
Matthew 4:4 says, “Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Knowledge and application of that word deep inside, will make us act, live, and sound more like Christ. We’ll live for Him!
Psalm 34:8, “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!” We have to experience God for ourselves to know just how good He is. And consuming His Word will open our eyes to Him. What better place to run to than in the arms of a Holy, loving, protecting Almighty?
In Matthew 6:11, part of Jesus’ prayer was, “Give us this day our daily bread, …” Every day has its own challenges. But when we’re worded up with our daily portion of bread, we are more equipped to deal with whatever life brings.
Hebrews 5:12-14 states, “You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong. …” People is time to grow up! Feeding on God’s Word is not an infant feeding. It’s a lifetime feeding. Just as babies need milk to begin the growth process, people new to the word need the little portions we can understand. But as we grow, we need to consume the meat of it to progress into maturity. And we must never stop growing our spiritual mind.
John 6:27, “Do not labor for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.” Feed on SOAP. SOAP will make you spiritually clean for the work God has for us. Through the Scripture (God’s word), Observation (to see and understand what it says), Application (apply it to our daily lives), Prayer (asking God to help us use it and use it correctly to grow as His children and to glorify Him). He made us; He feeds us; He cleanses us; so He can use us. God has set His seal on Him.
Psalm 119:105 reads, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Yes. When we read it, ingest it, digest it, know and understand it, apply it prayerfully in our lives, and grow from it. Then, not only will God order our steps, He will shine a light to guide our feet down an illuminated path. We will never lose our way, unless we choose, to venture off course. We’ve learned a good thing; it’s okay to eat SOAP. And occasionally, we need to wash our mouths with it.
