Stop Nibbling and Take a Full Bite

As early as Genesis 3:15, God promises a savior which He delivered on the cross, Jesus Christ His son.  And Jesus said to His disciples in Matthew 16:24-25, “And the one who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. The one who has found his life will lose it, and the one who has lost his life on My account will find it.” Jesus gave us life by losing His own; showing the most incredible love possible, “greater loves has no one than this, that a person will lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).

But far too many of us just nibble at salvation; we take little, tiny bites of the eternal life offered through the death and resurrection of our Savior.  To me, that seems so disrespectful to a God who allowed His Son to die that horrific death for you, and for me.

Why do we try to inch our way in?  We go only as far as we feel comfortable, and then we hover, we stall, we wait.  Isaiah 53:5 says, “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”  So why are we walking around afraid to give our lives fully to the Risen Savior?  We should be fully alive for righteousness, for through Him we have been forgiven.  We should be celebrating our new life with great joy.  We have peace and are healed by His sacrifice.  We are alive in Christ, but we still take those little bites, those nibbles.

Now instead of the cross symbolizing death, it symbolizes redemption and love.  The cross became the greatest sacrifice and love story ever told; a gift from the Creator.  Only with the cross can we live forever with God, as Jesus fulfilled the Law and made a way that man could be in God’s presence; even in our sinful nature. 1 Corinthians 1:18 reads, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”  We all know what we should do.  Let’s allow the power of God to control our relationship with Him.  Let’s allow the joy of the Lord and the gift of salvation to be our strength in Him. Let’s stop nibbling at what the cross symbolizes and take a full bite of His gift to us.  The free gift that offers eternal life with our King.  Let’s do it today, for we can have the whole thing!
