What Will We Do?

“Among my people are wicked men who lie in wait for victims like a hunter hiding in a blind. They continually set traps to catch people. Like a cage filled with birds, their homes are filled with evil plots. And now they are great and rich. They are fat and sleek, and there is no limit to their wicked deeds. They refuse to provide justice to orphans and deny the rights of the poor. Should I not punish them for this?” says the Lord. “Should I not avenge myself against such a nation? A horrible and shocking thing has happened in this land— the prophets give false prophecies, and the priests rule with an iron hand. Worse yet, my people like it that way! But what will you do when the end comes? (Jeremiah 5:26‭-‬31 NLT)

Indeed, what will we do? Looking at today’s scripture, one may say it was related to the days of old. Yes, and it’s also related to today. Look around you with eyes truly open. Events around the world resemble these words. Evil plots prevail while the justice system, in some instances, needs an overhaul. Orphans and the poor are more often criticized than offered help. False prophecies and prophets are everywhere. Preachers control some churches like it’s a private possession instead of a house of God.

But God is watching, and He never sleeps. He has provided the Way for us to get ourselves together, but will not force the change. It’s your choice and mine to acknowledge Jesus as God’s son and believe He died for our sins. It’s your choice and mine to believe Jesus rose from the grave and offers us salvation and eternal life. It’s your choice and mine to give our lives to Christ, to change who we are, and to become who God wants us to be. It’s your choice and mine. What will we do?
