We Are All Unworthy

A lot of people in today’s society feel underappreciated, undervalued, even unhonored.   But sometimes we take it too far.  Yes, we deserve our wages and should be treated fairly but after that, we should only get what we are promised whether through contract or word of mouth.  Luke 17:7-10 reads, “When a servant comes in from plowing or taking care of sheep, does his master say, ‘Come in and eat with me’? No, he says, ‘Prepare my meal, put on your apron, and serve me while I eat. Then you can eat later.’ And does the master thank the servant for doing what he was told to do? Of course not. In the same way, when you obey me you should say, ‘We are unworthy servants who have simply done our duty.’” When not involving a job and as it pertains to life, people don’t have to recognize we even exist.  Except for certain rules set forth by the government and employers, we could really be worse off.  As individuals, people can act as they choose within those parameters.  Should it be that way?  No, but we can set ourselves up to feel less than.  We sometimes expect too much of others, but we control none of it.  I believe it adds to stress, anxiety, and even behavioral episodes in our lives.  We allow what we think should happen to control our mental state.  If we think more rationally instead, we will see things are they are and appreciate it when people surprise us with appreciation, kindness, and love.  It’s in those moments we cherish life most.  It’s not always those who do more, go further, and reach higher that get the prize, except when chasing after the Almighty.

King David was one of those people.  He had passion for God and pursued Him purposefully.  In Psalms 42:1 David states, “As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.”  He desired God as thirsty deer long for a drink of water, desperately.  And God rewards that kind of passion for Him.  Those who seek Him with their whole heart, with all their being, He will bless with greater purpose.  We see it in 1 Samuel 13:14 where Samuel tells Saul, “But now your kingdom must end, for the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart. The Lord has already appointed him to be the leader of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command.”  David, because of his love and pursuit of God would be that man, and he didn’t even know it yet.  What a powerful blessing and relationship.  I want to love God like that.

In John 4:23 we read, “But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.”   Father God, I want this kind of relationship with You, but I have to get past me.  Lord, I need Your help.  I need the Holy Spirit to loose the things that prevent me from drawing closer to You.  I want more of You every day I’m on this earth.  Help me to keep Your precepts.  Give me more spiritual wisdom, power, understanding, and strength to disciple those around me.  Fill me with the fruit of the Spirit to help others find peace that surpasses all understanding, a peace that can only come from you.  Help me take the background Lord and put You first in my life, to worship You in spirit and in truth.  May Your will be done and to You be the glory always.  Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer, which I ask in the name of Jesus.  Amen.

We need to get purposeful in our relationship with God.  We need to be committed, sincere, and devoted.  The more time we spend with Him, the more we will be blessed.  God loves us regardless and He wants to give us the desires of our heart.  For me, I want my greatest desire to be the best possible relationship I can have with Him.  I know I’m unworthy, we all are, but I still seek to know and love Him better.  And I pray, He will help us realize we need Him vehemently, and can only accomplish this kind of passion through Jesus.  Then, we must be prepared for the greater purpose He may have for our lives.  Even though, we are all unworthy.

  1. Oftentimes I tell myself we are not worthy of what God has done for us. What he has given us, but I thank God for all he has done in my life, and will continue to do. To God be the Glory.
