The best way to get close to someone is to spend time with them. It is no different when trying to get closer to our God and Father. He made it easy and even showed us the way, but we make it difficult to accomplish. Why? We all want joy in our lives and we all want happiness, but we continue to hold on to things that prevent it from happening. We love what we love and don’t want to give it up. There is better! Joy and happiness are possible and available to us if we let some things go. We need to stop loving our cars, our homes, and our jobs so much, and transition that love to the one who is Love. The book of Matthew 6:33 tells us, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” God will provide all that we need if we seek after His kingdom and righteousness. And how do we do that? Through Jesus Christ His Son, we ask, we seek, and we knock.
What are we asking? We, first of all, are acknowledging and communicating with Jesus. This is the first step in building a relationship. How do I find Him? We tell Him what is on our hearts, asking Him to intervene.
What are we seeking? We are seeking Him. We want Him to come into our hearts and effect change in our lives. We believe things work in our favor when He is near to us.
Why knock? Knocking shows a desire. Our motivation and persistence are strong. Nothing and no one else can do this. We mean this Lord; we need You! We won’t stop until…
We read in Matthew 7:7, “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” To ask opens the door to a relationship. As that relationship develops and grows, we seek to be with the Lord more and more. As we do, our faith is increased. We then know that God is our source of strength, our protection in times of trouble, our comforter, and our sustainer. When we need Him, and we knock until the door opens. Then we allow ourselves to be immersed in Him and His love for us. As stated in Psalm 63:1, “You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.” God is our everything.
Jesus has extended an invitation. He wants us to turn our heads and our hearts towards Him; the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He said in Revelation 3:21, “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” Jesus is the only way to the Father; the only way to the kind of joy and happiness we want so desperately; the only way to a love and relationship that is unimaginable to us; the only way to One who will never let us down or give up on us; the only way to salvation and an eternal home with a forever family; the only way, to Heaven. In Jeremiah 29:13 it reads, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” God has shown us the Way. Which way will we choose? Jesus offered an invitation. Will we accept? With all our heart, I pray we choose the Way and accept that invitation today.
